One way do to (Sub-Saharan) Africa on the cheap is to fly into a touristy area along the Mediterranean and then head south overland. In practice, this means flying to Morocco or Egypt and then heading down through Mauritania or Sudan. Obviously, the former option is safer at the moment. You can get tickets from Berlin to Agadir for 400zł (or even cheaper, if you just take a carry-on) with EasyJet, or you can fly from Krakow via Milan. I’ll be doing Morocco and Mauritania this January, but you can go down into Senegal, Mali, and even Burkina Faso, and combine it with a flight back into Morocco with Royal Air Maroc (not cheap, though).
